MathCounts is a national mathematics competition for seventh and eighth grade students sponsored in part by the Society of Professional Engineers. Students at GTMS are recommended by their teachers for the club in October or November. We then have several practice sessions, meeting after school to prepare for timed written and oral competitions.  From the results of these sessions, a team of 4 individuals is formed for the competition. Four more students are chosen participate as individuals. We have competed over 40 years in the Mathcounts competition. Many teams and individuals have advanced to the state level on several occasions. The Southern New Jersey Regional Mathcounts Competition is held the first Saturday in February.
