Our school community gathered on April 28 at the Carriage House in Galloway to celebrate the Galloway Schools 2024 People of the Year & Retirees.

Honored that evening were four retirees (in attendance): Jose Diaz, Donna Ferrara, Debbie Randsdorp & Bridget Richardson. Read on the learn more about their amazing careers!

Debbie Randsdorp (Roland Rogers, ESL Teacher - 17 years)
Ms. Randsdorp dedicated herself to the field of education, serving as an ELA teacher in several schools in Galloway before finding her home at Roland in the 2013-2014 school year, where she remained for a decade until her retirement in December 2023. During her time at Roland, Debbie's passion for enriching students' lives extended far beyond the classroom. She took on the role of creator and overseer of the Bird and Butterfly Garden, transforming it into a certified Wildlife Habitat and a cherished outdoor classroom oasis for students. In addition to nurturing creative learning opportunities for her ESL students, Ms. Randsdorp actively engaged in school-wide initiatives such as the multicultural day, where she captivated classes with presentations on the 'Netherlands' and 'Hats Around the World'. Her commitment to the school community shone through her involvement in various committees, including the pulse committee, care committee, and code of conduct committee. Debbie's impact on Roland will be remembered for years to come, as she leaves behind a legacy of dedication, innovation, and compassion. Wishing you a retirement filled with the peace of mind that comes from knowing you've left an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of those you've touched throughout your career. Donna Ferrara (Smithville, Grade 4 - 19 years)
Donna is retiring from her position as Grade 4 teacher from Smithville Elementary School after 19 years in the district. Donna embodies a unique blend of qualities that make her a truly remarkable colleague & teacher. As a great listener, she lends her ears to those who need to share their joys and burdens, whether it's about school endeavors or family matters. Her devotion to family, particularly her granddaughter Julia, is unwavering, placing them at the forefront of her priorities. Her compassion extends beyond human connections; she harbors a deep love for animals, especially beagles, and would rescue them all if she could! A lover of sunshine and the sea, she finds solace in warm, sunny days and treasures her collection of seashells and sea glass as tokens of her affinity for the ocean. Always willing to lend a hand, she embodies the spirit of selflessness, doing whatever it takes to make life easier for those around her. Donna, congratulations on reaching this incredible milestone of retirement! May your days be filled with the things that bring you happiness, whether it's traveling the world, pursuing hobbies, adopting all the beagles, or simply enjoying the serenity of quiet moments at home or at the beach. You've earned it!

Jose Diaz (Roland Rogers, ESL Teacher - 20 years)
Mr. Diaz began his journey as an ESL teacher at Arthur Rann, later transitioning to a traveling ESL role before finding his permanent place at Roland in the 2006-2007 academic year. During his tenure at Roland, Mr. Diaz consistently went above and beyond, enriching his students' learning experiences with innovative use of technology and virtual field trips. His contributions extended beyond the classroom, playing a pivotal role in shaping the school's culture and climate. Among his notable endeavors were school-wide events like the presidential mock elections, the multicultural day team challenge, and his engaging Veteran’s Day presentations, which provided real-life learning opportunities for the entire school community. Mr. Diaz was also instrumental in introducing various technological innovations to Roland, laying the groundwork for the school's adoption of daily video announcements. In 2020, Mr. Diaz, serving as the school’s webmaster, elevated the daily video announcements into "Roland TV," a dynamic news program broadcasted every morning and available online for parents - a testament to his commitment to enhancing communication and engagement within the school community. In recognition of his dedication and outstanding contributions, Mr. Diaz was honored as Roland’s Teacher of the Year in 2022 - an accolade truly deserved for his unwavering passion and commitment to education. Wishing you a retirement as vibrant and fulfilling as the career you've enjoyed. May each day be a celebration of your accomplishments, a testament to your hard work, and a reminder of the incredible person you are. Here's to your next chapter, Jose!

Bridget Richardson (Roland Rogers, Grade 3 - 25 years)
Bridget began her journey at Roland Rogers in 1999 as a basic skills assistant, following two years at St. Vincent de Paul in Mays Landing, where she taught 3rd grade. In the spring of her first year at Roland Rogers, she seamlessly transitioned into a first-grade teaching position, quickly becoming an integral part of the team. Bridget had the privilege of working alongside some of the best teachers in her career, whom she deeply respects and admires, for 13 fulfilling years in 1st grade. After a brief one-year stint in Kindergarten, Bridget made the move to 3rd grade in 2013, where she has remained ever since. For the majority of her time in 3rd grade, she has had the pleasure of co-teaching with Cathy Watkins, a collaboration she values greatly. Additionally, Bridget served as a team leader for one year, showcasing her leadership skills and dedication to her colleagues and students. Beyond the classroom, she’s been a dedicated volunteer at Roland's FSAs Sports Night, contributing in various roles such as serving desserts and playing volleyball. Her unwavering support for this event exemplifies her commitment to the school community and its activities. Hailing from Galloway, Bridget's roots run deep within the community, having attended Galloway schools herself, along with her three children, the youngest of whom is set to graduate from Absegami this June. Bridget, warmest wishes on your retirement - May each day bring you the simple joys you've always longed for and the freedom to pursue your passions with abandon!

Also honored were our Support Staff Member of the Year, Classroom Assistant of the Year, Friend of Education, and Teachers of the Year for each school.

Robyn Goldberg - Classroom Assistant of the Year (Arthur Rann)
Robyn Goldberg, an integral member of the Arthur Rann team for years, embodies unparalleled patience and kindness as an assistant. Despite the absence of her lead teacher this year due to maternity leave, she seamlessly fulfills her traditional role while supporting her long-term substitute in maintaining crucial routines for her students, who have demanding physical needs. Her contributions have spanned over 25 years in Galloway Township, initially as an involved parent and later as a devoted assistant. Renowned for her exceptional support, Robyn celebrates each student's unique qualities and ensures their success with seemingly effortless expertise. Beyond her work with students, Robyn's leadership within the staff is evident, as she readily volunteers for various tasks and events, spreading positivity and kindness to all. Her commitment to her colleagues, students, and community make her a deserving honoree as Classroom Assistant of the Year.

Kisheen Greene - Support Staff Member of the Year (Smithville Head Custodian)
Mr. Kisheen Green, the dedicated daytime head custodian at Smithville Elementary School for the past two years, consistently exceeds expectations. He tirelessly works to enhance the school's appearance, greeting everyone with a warm smile and personal recognition. Kisheen’s interactions with both staff and students demonstrate his commitment to fostering a positive environment, a quality that he carried over from his tenure as the district courier, another position in which his dedication and sparkling personality shone through. Mr. Green's proactive approach includes making daily rounds to ensure classrooms are well-equipped and comfortable. Beyond his official duties, he extends himself to support colleagues and students, earning admiration and gratitude throughout the school community. Kisheen's impact is profound, making him an invaluable asset to Smithville School and to the Galloway School District. We take great pride in naming Kisheen as this year’s Support Staff member of the year, and thank him for his dedicated service!

Juli Dunkelberger  - Pomona Preschool (Speech/Language Therapist)
Juli has been an integral part of the Galloway Township Schools as a dedicated Speech Pathologist since 2011, with her unwavering commitment centered at Pomona Preschool throughout her tenure. Over the years, Juli has been instrumental in guiding numerous students on their individual journeys to effective communication, whether through verbal expression, visual aids, or AAC devices. Her devotion extends far beyond the classroom walls, reaching out onto the playground where she advocated for the significance of communication by successfully securing an Education Foundation grant for an outdoor communication board. This visionary initiative not only enriches the students' communication abilities but also fosters inclusivity and accessibility across every facet of their educational experience. A collaborative spirit defines Juli's approach, as she works seamlessly alongside Pomona's educators to infuse communication opportunities into every aspect of the school day. Beyond her direct responsibilities, Juli generously shares her expertise and wisdom with aspiring professionals in the field, serving as a mentor to undergraduate and graduate students from Stockton University. Looking ahead, Juli eagerly anticipates continuing her mission to expand students' communication horizons in the upcoming year, further enriching their educational journey and fostering connections that transcend words alone. Juli - thank you for your dedication and congratulations on being named “Teacher of the Year”!

Katie Kuras - Roland Rogers (Kindergarten Teacher)
Ms. Katie Kuras epitomizes excellence as a teacher, cultivating a classroom environment that nurtures academic growth, responsibility, respect, and kindness. With unwavering dedication, she holds high expectations for all students, refusing to give up on them and empowering them to believe in themselves. Demonstrating remarkable empathy, Ms. Kuras devises personalized strategies to support struggling students discreetly, fostering their academic progress and self-confidence. Her natural rapport with children is complemented by her emphasis on self-responsibility and accountability, guiding students through challenges with empathy and encouragement. Beyond the classroom, she actively engages parents and the community, orchestrating events like holiday concerts and educational sessions with therapy dogs and baby chickens, enriching students' experiences. As a team leader, Katie exemplifies leadership, positivity, and generosity, offering unwavering support to colleagues and newcomers alike, enhancing the entire kindergarten team's effectiveness. Ms. Kuras's impact transcends her skilled teaching to embody professionalism, compassion, and exemplary leadership - she is truly deserving of the title “Teacher of the Year”. 

Katie Lanahan - Arthur Rann School (2nd Grade In-Class Resource Teacher)
Katie Lanahan, a dedicated special education teacher in the In-Class Resource setting at Arthur Rann Elementary School, exemplifies the qualities deserving of recognition on multiple fronts. Her unwavering commitment to professional growth is evident in her continuous pursuit of best practices and innovative strategies to meet the diverse needs of her students. Recognizing the importance of differentiated instruction, Mrs. Lanahan collaborates effectively with her teaching partner, utilizing their planning time to craft dynamic lessons tailored to individual and group needs. Recently assuming the role of Team Leader for the Special Education Unit, Mrs. Lanahan demonstrates exceptional leadership by facilitating team meetings and providing ongoing support and guidance to her colleagues. She fosters a culture of collaboration and open communication, ensuring that all team members are equipped to effectively serve the needs of students with disabilities. Recognizing the evolving needs of her students, she embraces change and adapts her teaching practices accordingly. Clear expectations and consistent guidance contribute to a classroom atmosphere built on mutual respect and academic growth, a testament to Mrs. Lanahan's dedication and effectiveness as an educator. For all of these reasons and more, we are proud to name Katie as Arthur Rann’s Teacher of the Year!

Katie McAvey - Smithville (Grade 6 Intervention Teacher)
Ms. Katie McAvey is a teacher that embodies the fundamental principles of Galloway Township, placing children and their educational journey at the forefront of her priorities. Throughout her tenure, Katie has evolved into an exceptional educator, exemplifying traits of humility, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to her students' success. Katie's career path has seen her seamlessly navigate through various teaching roles, including LLD, resource, regular education, and presently, intervention teacher. Her innate ability to forge connections with students, both academically and emotionally, alongside her extensive experience across different grade levels, enhances her effectiveness in her current role. As a unit leader, Katie assumes a leadership role, advocating for her colleagues and addressing concerns with professionalism and expertise. Katie also dedicates herself to a range of extracurricular activities, including leading the Before School Academic Program and actively participating in community events. Her tireless dedication to inspiring students, cultivating positive relationships, and fostering academic and social growth is truly unparalleled, making her choice as Smithville Teacher of the Year an easy one!

Stephanie Paton - GTMS (Grade 7 Resource Teacher)
A GTMS 7th grade resource teacher, Ms. Stephanie Paton has consistently exhibited an exceptional level of dedication and respect towards her students, colleagues, and administrative team. She has an unwavering commitment to meeting the unique needs of all students, going above and beyond to provide resources and support, even for those not directly assigned to her "caseload." In her role as Team D team leader, Stephanie plays a pivotal role in fostering team morale, motivation, and communication, while also offering guidance and mentorship to fellow staff members. Additionally, Stephanie's dedication to fostering a positive school culture is evident through her role as Culture Coordinator, where she orchestrates various school-wide activities aimed at promoting respect, kindness, and community among all staff and students. Furthermore, her involvement as an advisor for the Drama Club highlights her commitment to providing enriching extracurricular experiences for students, often dedicating countless hours beyond what is required to ensure their success and enjoyment. Stephanie's unwavering dedication, kindness, and positive contributions to the GTMS community made her a standout for the honor of Teacher of the Year.

Meghan Bruscato - Reeds Road & District Teacher of the Year (Grade 3 Teacher)
Mrs. Meghan Bruscato, a Galloway Township native and proud alumna of Reeds Road, embodies the epitome of a dedicated, knowledgeable, and compassionate educator. Her commitment extends beyond teaching academic standards; she forges meaningful connections with her students, catering to their diverse personalities and learning styles. Passionate about her vocation, Mrs. Bruscato champions her students' needs tirelessly, from crafting engaging lessons to collaborating within the I&RS team. Colleagues point out her attention to detail and unwavering work ethic as evident in every aspect of her teaching, and extending outside of school to her community, actively participating in school events and supporting her students beyond the classroom. She exemplifies respect, kindness, and grace, setting a shining example for her students and the school community. Meghan's impact extends beyond her students; she generously shares her expertise and resources with colleagues, fostering a collaborative and supportive school climate. Recognizing her outstanding professionalism, dedication, and positive influence on our school community for over two decades, we are proud to honor Meghan as Reeds Road’s Teacher of the Year and to name her as the District Teacher of the Year.
